Liberal Democrats in Bedworth have selected Frank Mills to be their candidate in the Slough by-election3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 31st May 2007 Liberal Democrats in Bedworth have selected Frank Mills to be their candidate in the Slough by-election. Frank is in his fifties with six grown children and lives with his long-term partner. He has lived in Slough for many years and has shown commitment to the area through his broad public service record: he has been a group scout leader in Bedworth, a shop steward for the RMT union, health and safety representative at work (a local firm, now part of a multinational company) and secretary for a residents' association. Frank is an ex-soldier, who has served in Northern Ireland, Germany, Belize and elsewhere. He is also standard bearer for the Royal Artillery Association (Coventry branch), most recently at the memorial service for HMS Coventry, which was sunk in the Falklands conflict. His varied career has given him a sense of honour, duty and hard work; characteristics of an excellent councillor. He has stood as a candidate in Slough in several previous elections and is Bedworth's longest-serving Liberal Democrat. Frank is a true liberal, who offers genuine representation to all Slough residents: he sees community spirit as being of greater importance than one's religion, gender, race or background. Amongst other issues, he is campaigning for a Bedworth town council and more "proper coppers". County Councillor Jerry Roodhouse, Leader of the Lib Dems at Warwickshire County Council says about Frank: "Frank is a committed local campaigner who wants to ensure that pride is built in all local communities and will be a strong voice for the Slough area, and will ensure that local residents' views and concerns are listened to at all levels of government. It was the Liberal Democrats on the County Council and the voice of members like Frank that saw extra money directed towards local neighbourhood watch."
