Cameron wins the Conservative Leadership

3.34.35pm GMT Tue 6th Dec 2005

David Cameron has beaten David Davies in the Conservative Leadership contest by 68% to 32% to become the Leader of the Conservative Party.

David Cameron's election could usher in a very interesting few years in politics, particularly when Blair goes. David Cameron appears not to be tainted with some of the past debacles of the Conservative Party whilst in office, but it may be worth remembering he was a special adviser to Norman Lamont during the UK's withdrawal from the ERM and the resulting fiasco as well as Michael Howard's special adviser whilst he was Home Secretary and ultimately responsible for chaining women to their beds whilst they were giving birth!
