Pope attacks equality
Tue 2nd Feb 2010
Pope Benedict XVI has attacked British society and in particular our equality legislation. In a letter addressed to the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales, the pope criticised UK legislation for creating "limitations on the freedom of religious communities to act in accordance with their beliefs". Of course, what the Pope means is the law now prevents adoption agencies from discriminating against gay couples and the Equality Bill may mean the Catholic Church can no longer discriminate on grounds of sexuality or gender.

Conservative Councillor to stand down
Mon 1st Feb 2010
News reaches me that one of the Conservative Councillors for Wednesfield North - Councillor Charlotte Quarmby is standing down. This will almost certainly result in a by-election taking place on the same day as the scheduled local elections on May 6. Charlotte recently got married and is leaving, or has left, the area - of course I wish her well in the future.

Prime Minister's Questions
Thu 28th Jan 2010
A bit later than promised, but yesterday I went to Prime Minister's Questions and also helped my friend pack up his parliamentary office prior to the election. PMQ's was, of course, this week without Gordon Brown and therefore Cameron and Clegg too - which as I quite like William Hague and Vince Cable that was fine with me.
